Arab Spring Gusher‎ / The Arab apartheid system is exposing itself

June 29, 2011

Arab Spring Gusher‎
Northumberland Today – Wally Keeler – [June 28, 2011]

Arabs take to the streets in the hundreds of thousands. They have suffered suppression, oppression, repression, for generations of family dictatorships. Security forces machine-gun the ‘flowering popular movement.’ Tanks and howitzers shell the residences of the ‘flowering popular movement.’ Mourners are gunned down, children are tortured and murdered, dissidents decapitated or mutilated. Women are gang raped. Refugees by the thousands flee. Tens of thousands are homeless. Islamist buzzards circle over the political chaos. The Arab apartheid system is exposing itself.

The Dark World of the Arab Child Slave Trade‎ (AINA)

June 29, 2011

The Dark World of the Arab Child Slave Trade‎
AINA (press release) – Stephen Brown – Jun 11, 2011

While tens of thousands of adults are also victims of Arab slavers, many people only first took notice of the Arab slave trade in children when reports of enslaved child camel jockeys emerged from Persian Gulf countries. A 2004 HBO documentary on the subject was especially responsible for making Americans aware of this modern-day barbarism. These boys, who were sold by poor parents hoping their offspring would some day experience a better life, were primarily from South Asia. But instead of a life of dignity and meaningful work, they wound up in the Middle East where they were made to race camels for their Arab masters. Beaten and often sexually abused, they were all kept undernourished, so that the camels would have less weight to carry.

“As many as 6,000 child camel jockeys…languished in hidden slavery on ozbah farms, where their masters beat them and starved them to keep their weight down,” wrote E. Benjamin Skinner in his book, A Crime So Monstrous.

[…]

When investigating in the 1990s the enslavement of hundreds of thousands of black Africans in Mauritania by Arab-Berber masters, African-American author Samuel Cotton was stunned to discover that African children were still being kidnapped by Arabs traveling with camels carrying big baskets. The child, usually playing alone, would suddenly be snatched from its play and placed in one such basket, after which its new owners hurried away. The children, he was told, are sometimes found later “hundreds of miles away as slaves.”

Also during his investigation, which was summarized in his highly informative book Silent Terror: A Journey Into Contemporary African Slavery, Cotton was told there was “still a huge trafficking in slaves going on between Mauritania and the United Arab Emirates.”

Black African children are also not always stolen so surreptitiously. Until recently in the southern Sudan, the old-fashioned slave raid witnessed villages being burned down, the men killed and the women and children captured. This was the Arab slavers’ main harvesting tool of humans. Thousands of children were captured by this murderous method and forcibly taken as agricultural, domestic and sex slaves to Arab northern Sudan — where many still languish today. Darfur has also seen many children disappear from both refugee camps and towns subjected to central government attack. They are suspected victims of Arab slave hunters.

But it is not only non-Arab children who are Arab child slave trade victims. An Egyptian newspaper, referring to a 2008 UNICEF report, stated Egyptian children are being bought and sold for about $3,000 for “domestic work and farming, among other things.” This trade in children is so extensive in Egypt, organizations are “employing brokers, and even operating their own web sites.

“Many are also sent to the Gulf States, with orphanages being a major supplier,” the story further reports….

Delta adopts Saudi ‘no-Jew’ fly policy

Posted on June 23, 2011 by admin

BY BOB UNRUH, WORLDNETDAILY—

Delta Air Lines’ plan to add Saudi Arabian Airlines to its SkyTeam Alliance of partnering companies would require the American carrier to ban Jews and holders of Israeli passports from boarding flights from New York or Washington bound for Jeddah, prompting outraged accusations of illegal religious discrimination.

The issue, which has caught the attention of the American Center for Law and Justice already, was raised when Washington attorney Jeffrey Lovitky was perusing airline procedures for travel.

“As we learn more about the issue and facts, we are determined to ensure that American citizens do not face discrimination by airlines like Delta that are passenger code-sharing with Saudi Arabian Airlines, said Colby M. May, director and senior counsel of the ACLJ.

Delta and Saudi Arabia: Flying the Friendly, Anti-Semitic Skies

anti-Semitic Delta Israeli Jews morals oil Saudi Arabia Saudi Arabian Airlines women

It’s no secret that Saudi Arabia bars passengers with Jewish sounding last names and any passport with an Israeli stamp from its flights. It’s therefore inexplicable why Delta Airlines would partner with Saudi Arabian Airlines knowing that the partnership would, at best, passively endorse Saudi Arabia’s anti-Semitic policies. Even more bizarre is the defense Delta offered of the practice once the story of the partnership broke. International airlines, it said, “are required to comply with all applicable laws governing entry into every country… Visa requirements or other possible government travel restrictions to enter any country are dictated by that nation’s government, not the national airlines or foreign carriers. These requirements apply to anyone entering the country either by land, air or sea.”

Aha. So Delta isn’t barring Jews from entering Saudi Arabia. They can’t be faulted for Saudi policies.

But would Delta have said the same thing had they partnered with, say, South African Airways at the height of apartheid had there been a requirement for black passengers to sit near the toilet in the back of the aircraft? Would they have said, “Sorry, this isn’t our regulation, it’s our partner’s.” I suspect not. They would probably have never risked a partnership that would have passively endorsed racist policies and subjected the airline to international condemnation.

Which leads to the larger question of why Saudi Arabia is always treated differently. Where is the outrage over the only country in the entire world that doesn’t allow women to drive a car or that publicly flogs women for being alone in a room with a man they are not married to, as recently happened to a woman in her seventies who committed the sin of allowing a delivery man into her house? This is pure barbarity, yet the West continues to overlook it due to Saudi wealth and our own gluttony for oil. In essence, we have allowed our morals to drown in an ocean of crude.

Islamic scholars have confirmed that there is nothing in the Koran that bars a woman from driving and at least two of the prophet’s wives are known to have ridden camels, the four-wheel drive of its time. Yet, when Manal al-Sharif posted a video of herself driving this past May she was locked up for nine days.

This extreme gender apartheid led in turn to the recent, widely-covered protests on the part of several Saudi women to publicly drive and challenge the authoritarian Wahhabi regime, pleading with Hillary Clinton to speak out on their behalf. But the most our Secretary of State could muster was a bland and non-committal statement: “What these women are doing is brave, and what they are seeking is right.” You don’t say. But hey, at least the statement is a start.

But while the world applauds the rise of the Arab spring and the sprouting of the innate desire on the part of Arab brothers and sisters to live and breathe free, there is at best token American and European pressure on the Saudis to come in from the dark ages and treat women like fully-fledged human beings. The absence of leading feminist voices regularly and unrelentingly condemning the Saudis for their brutal treatment of women is particularly dispiriting.

But hey, even feminists need to fill up and so long as the Saudis prove useful in pumping up our gas-guzzling SUV’s, it seems that the American people will continue to remain silent and more American businesses will continue to sell their souls.

Face the facts – Syria is an apartheid state

The west is conniving in Bashar Assad’s brutal suppression of opposition

Nick Cohen The Observer, Sunday 19 June 2011

The UN will never tell you this, but Syria is an apartheid-style state. Members of Assad’s Alawite sect make up only 14% of the population, but they control government, much of business and all the forces of coercion. Even the underworld is segregated on confessional lines. The shabbiha crime gangs that run the prostitution and smuggling rackets, and whose members the Assads are letting loose on the civilian population, are Alawite mafias.

I hope that liberals of my generation who beat their chests as they protested against racial apartheid in southern Africa will soon feel as outraged by religious apartheid in the Middle East. The Syrian opposition has as much right to our support as the African National Congress did because it has not targeted Alawites because of their religion. Indeed, it places its hopes on the Alawite-led army mutinying.

Whither Palestine?

Obama’s announcement that the questions of Jerusalem and refugees would be deferred to a

later stage, following the successful conclusion of an agreement on borders and
security is a total non-starter from the Israeli viewpoint. It permits the
Palestinians to continue the conflict after having their territory legally
defined as “occupied”, or forcing Israel to retreat to the indefensible borders
of 1967 without even ending the conflict! No sane Israeli government can agree
to such a position. So too, roughly three out of four Israelis refuse to see
Jerusalem divided again. The nineteen years of Arab rule of East Jerusalem
[1948-1967] and the attendant desecration of synagogues and Jewish cemeteries as
well as the inaccessibility of Jewish holy sites during that period has taught
Israelis to seriously distrust promises on that score. Mahmoud Abbas’ recent
statement that no Israelis would be permitted to stay on Palestinian land proves
that not much has changed in the Palestinian view of the relationship. It’s
Palestine that would be a racist, apartheid state, not Israel which has a 20%
Arab citizenship and Arab Members of the Knesset, as well as Arab members of the
cabinet.

The report focuses specifically on the human rights situation of the Al-Akhdam community inYemen, a situation which has been addressed by the Committee in the List of Issues For centuries the Al-Akhdam has suffered perpetual discrimination, persecution and ensuing crimesat Yemens most marginal social, economic, and political spaces where they are violently excluded from mainstream society as an untouchable ethnic outcaste.
Social discrimination faced by the Al-Akhdam

Syria remains dangerous regime
Posted on Friday, 06.10.11
BY FRIDA GHITIS
The Syrian people have good reason to feel let down by those around the world who claim to believe passionately in human rights and democracy. The international community has shown misguided restraint in condemning Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s slaughter of his own people. In trying to prove he should be allowed to stay in power, Assad has shown exactly the opposite.
[…]
This is not just about Assad. Syrian demonstrators have been chanting “No to Assad,” but also “No to Iran, No to Hezbollah!” The protests threaten the Iran-Syria-Hezbollah-Hamas bloc. There is much at stake here not just for the regime in Damascus but for the entire region. Syria and Iran have kept Hamas and Hezbollah stockpiled with weapons. Without Damascus, the structure would wobble; perhaps fall.

The lesson from the border protests is that Assad leads an exceedingly dangerous regime. If his brutality against the Syrian people was not enough, his willingness to trigger another regional war — with the support of his allies in Tehran, Beirut and Gaza — should convince the international community to impose stern sanctions, and work for his removal.

Syria: Where Massacre Is a Family Tradition

The mask of the Assad regime finally falls, and the world is forced to confront its illusions about Iran’s ally and Hezbollah’s patron.
By FOUAD AJAMI
Pity the Syrians as they face the Assad regime’s tanks and artillery and snipers. Unlike in Libya, there is no Arab or international “mandate” to protect them. Grant Syria’s rulers their due: Their country rides with the Iranian theocracy and provides it access to the Mediterranean. It is a patron of Hamas and Hezbollah. And still they managed to sell the outside world on the legend of their moderation.

A new Hama on the Turkish border Asia Times Online
By Victor Kotsev
June 15, 2011
TEL AVIV – In 1982, on orders by current Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s father, Hafez, the Syrian army destroyed much of the city of Hama and killed somewhere between 10,000 and 40,000 people. The memory of that Muslim Brotherhood uprising and the government massacre is so strong in Syria that arguably it was a crucial factor in rekindling the current unrest after some 70 demonstrators were killed in Hama 10 days ago.

Now, the town of Jisr al-Shoughour seems set on becoming the new Hama – “a” new Hama, if we believe much of what is being written and said about the situation in Syria, with other cities to follow. It does not mean that the comparison is realistic – all other discrepancies aside, the town with its approximately 50,000 inhabitants is no comparison to Hama, the fourth-largest city in Syria – but then again, leading Western ethicists of the past few decades have taught us not to compare numbers of victims.

Sky News: Clinton accuses Iran of backing Syria
Updated: 03:32, Wednesday June 15, 2011
US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on Tuesday accused Iran of backing Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s ‘vicious assaults’ on pro-democracy protesters after crushing its own 2009 uprising.
‘Iran is supporting the Assad regime’s vicious assaults on peaceful protesters and military actions against its own cities,’ Clinton said, comparing its response to Iran’s crackdown on pro-reform demonstrations.
‘Two years ago this week, Iranian citizens went to the polls in the hopes of expressing their democratic rights,’ she said.
‘When the people reached for their aspirations, the government responded with brutal repression. Two years later, that repression continues.’
Syria’s uprising was triggered in mid-March by the arrest and torture of 15 children and adolescents accused of spraying anti-regime graffiti in the southern town of Daraa, which then became the epicentre of the revolt.
The UN children’s agency UNICEF has since said that at least 30 children have been shot dead in the revolt against the Assad family’s 40-year rule…

Another Tack: No Jews in Judea
Jerusalem Post – Sarah Honig – ‎Jun 10, 2011‎
The international community relishes reviling ultra-tolerant Israel while it ignores and even justifies crude Arab racism. Just try to imagine what would have happened had Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu stood before some Jewish forum and exclaimed that “from now on we won’t allow the presence of one Arab in our independent Israel with Jerusalem as its capital.”

…Addressing a recent emergency session of Arab League foreign ministers in Doha, Qatar, Mahmoud Abbas unabashedly declared that “when an independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital is established, we won’t allow the presence of one Israeli in it.”

Not to put too fine a point on it, this is the Arabic version of the German-minted Judenrein – “clean of Jews.” Yet no Arab diplomat was discomfited or shocked. Abbas consistently accentuates the same sentence with only trivial verbal variations. In December 2010, for instance, he put us on notice that “I will never allow a single Israeli to live among us on Palestinian land.”

Genocidal racist Arab leader: Ahmad Shukairy, ‘father’ of ‘Apartheid’ slander

The Arab led slur of “apartheid” [a tactic of diverting attention from the largely Arab leaders’ fault in Arabs’ condition, as well as general Arab oppression of its people and discrimination against minorities, with the aim of de-legitimizing Israel’s quest for survival, as if Israel’s security and defense has anything to do with “race”], dates back to an October 1961 speech by Saudi Arabia’s Ahmad Shukairy during a strongly anti-Western chide. He went as far as to object Israel’s right to try Nazi extermination chief of WW2: Adolf Eichmann.

[It was amidst a season of strong UN condemnation of South Africa, thus, the Arab icon came up with a tactic of defamation by fictitious comparison to S. Africa’s system.]

That’s almost 6 years before the so-called “occupation” came about, yet it was picked up by Arab propaganda machine ever since, and has been “adjusted” to any situation between Israel and its Arab attackers. Demagogue-like symbolism [like the security fence] have been used and included to be “updated,” to make the criminal propaganda seem somehow “legitimate.”

* Ahmad Shukari (1908-1980) was born in Lebanon.

* Served as an aide to infamous Haj Amin al-Husseini Hitler’s ally [the Mufti, who called to ‘kill the Jews wherever you find them,’ and prevented Jewish children from being rescued during WW2]. He himself admired Nazism and with the Mufti assisted in ideas of extermination.

* Became assistant Secretary General for the Arab League from 1950–56.

* Served as Saudi Arabia’s representative to the UN from 1957-1962.

* Famous for his 1956 admission to the falsehood of a “Palestinian” (distinct) people, or Palestine as a “separate” Arab entity.

* His openly pro-Nazism was expressed in 1962 at the UN while praising a Nazi group.

* Spearheaded the major shift in Arab strategy in the “creation” of a “Palestine entity” in 1963 (as mentioned, as late as 1957, Shukairy himself pleaded on behalf of “Palestine” as nothing but a part of Syria), seeing that the collective Arab VS Israel war lacks support. It was to tap into the anti-colonialism that spread in the UN with the fight in Algeria and to suggest parallels, in order to gather support among Africans.

* Was the first to head the PLO in 1964. In [his] then “Palestinian” original charter, there’s no call for a “homeland” or so-called “rights,” but as part of a ‘pan-Arab’ struggle.

* Known for his hate speeches.

* Was very instrumental in the six-day war of June 1967 by collective Arab nations whose leaders, like Shukairy called to annihilate Israel.

* Coined the [extermination] phrase: “Driving the Jews unto the sea.” [‘Throwing the Jews into the sea’]

* Years before the “occupation” (what is referred to Israel’s victory over Arab aggression in 1967) he called for “liberation” (of what?)

There you have it, Arab racism, Nazism and Arab genocide hiding behind “liberation,” has invented the “apartheid” meme against its victim: Israel.

The typical hypocritical element of “accusing” Israel with the crime of the Arabs, that of “nazism” was also encapsulated by this Arab-Nazi mastermind of ‘Arab-Palestine’ in his elaborated opposition to try Eichmann.

PRO-NAZISM – PRAISING NAZIS

When Hitler became Abu Ali
By Julian Schvindlerman – June 7, 2002
[…]
Nazi slogans were translated into Arabic. A Mideast song popular toward the end of the 1930s crooned: “No more Monsieur, no more Mister. In Heaven Allah, on earth Hitler.” The Fuehrer himself was even Islamicized under the new name of Abu Ali.
Love of Nazism spread like wildfire in the region. Among the many Nazi sympathizers at the time were Haj Amin al-Husseini (Grand Mufti of Jerusalem and president of the Arab Higher Committee); Ahmed Shukairi (first chairman of the Palestine Liberation Organization); Gamal Abdel Nasser and Anwar Sadat (both future presidents of Egypt); Islamic fundamentalist leaders; and the founders of the Pan-Arab socialist Ba’ ath party, currently ruling Syria and Iraq. (One Ba’ath leader proudly recounted: “We were racists, admiring Nazism, reading their books and sources of their thought. We were the first who thought of translating Mein Kampf.”).

THE INVENTION OF A “PALESTINE ENTITY” – 1963

Congress bi-weekly: Volume 31 – American Jewish Congress – 1964 – Snippet view
The “Palestine Entity” JOSEPH B. SCHECHTMAN … NOTABLE AND LARGELY overlooked — feature of the present-day strategy of Arab states with regard to the Palestine Arabs is the emphasis on the “Palestine Entity” (Al- Kiyan Al-Falastin). It represents a major departure from the policy the Arab governments had pursued during the decade following the establishment of Israel. Throughout that period, Arab states’ delegations in the United Nations acted as the sole…
http://books.google.com/books?&id=1tAMAQAAMAAJ&q=Al-+Kiyan+Al-Falastin

… In 1960, the Arab states submitted to the 1 6th Assembly session a request for a hearing for “the Palestine [instead of “a Palestinian”] Arab delegation,” this time of ten persons. At the 17th session, thirteen persons were listed, and they were described as “the Palestine Arab Delegation representing the views of the Palestine Arab people.” Mr. Gallin-Douathe, of the Central African Republic, was puzzled by this procedure, and asked how could there be a “Palestine Arab Delegation” when there was no longer a country called Palestine. The committee chairman, Dr. Leopold Benites of Ecuador, somewhat impatiently answered that he could not go into the substance of the problem. The Israel delegation did not press the point, and a Mufti henchman, Emile El- Ghouri, was permitted to present the Arab refugees’ case. At the 18th session ( 1963), representatives of all the 13 Arab League states submitted a fresh request (UN document A/SPC/89), this time for 18 persons described as as “the Palestine Arab Delegation representing the Arab people of Palestine, the principal party to the Palestine question.” Shukairy was listed as chairman of this body, and was invited to address the Special Political Committee.
http://books.google.com/books?&id=1tAMAQAAMAAJ&dq=18th

It authorized him to lead a “Palestine Arab Delegation” of his Own selection that would plead the cause of “Palestine” at the UN.
Shukairy’s emergence as a central figure in the struggle for the “Palestine Entity” is a matter of concern. He vehemently advocates the establishment of a ” Palestine Government-in-Exile” and has announced his willingness to head such a government if it receives the financial, military and political support of the Arab states..
http://books.google.com/books?&id=1tAMAQAAMAAJ&dq=shukairy

It would be a grave mistake to underestimate the significance and dangers of the latest shift in the Arab strategy. The Arab states seem to have realized the increasing unpopularity of their open war threats against Israel in the prevailing climate of “peaceful coexistence.” The resurrection of a “Palestine Entity” with a “Government-in-Exile” would create a convenient instrument for aggressive propaganda, since it would seek to link in the public mind Algeria and Palestine and tap the anti-colonialist feelings that are so strong in the UN. By equating the plight of the refugees with that of the still unliberated peoples of Africa they confidently expect to enlist the sympathy of the Afro-Asian delegations. The “Palestine Entity” device must be viewed in the light of these considerations. It should no longer be regarded as a mere question of procedural formality but as a most dangerous weapon for exploiting Middle East tensions.

HIS “PALESTINIAN” CHARTER CALLS FOR A ‘PAN-ARAB’ STRUGGLE NOT A SEPARATE “HOMELAND”

The Original Palestine National Charter…
This Covenant was written by the first Chairman of the Palestine Liberation Organization, Ahmed Shukeiry. This version of the PLO Charter reflects the Pan-Arab nationalism espoused by then, Egyptian President Jamal Abd El-Nasir. This can be clearly seen in the emphasis on the view of Palestine as part of an Arab collective homeland. The pan-Arab objective in the Arab-Israeli conflict is rather pervasive – the destruction (al-qada-ala) of Israel. However, noticeably missing is the call for a Palestinian state and the subordinate position of the Palestinians in what is expressed as a battle for their rights and homeland.

Founding the Palestine Liberation Organization
What led to the founding of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) in 1964?
In 1964 the Arab League, a loose confederation of fourteen Arab countries including Egypt, Jordan, Syria, Iraq, and Lebanon, met in Cairo and established a political body to deal directly with the problem of the Palestinian Arabs. They called it the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO). The PLO’s first leader was an Egyptian, Ahmed Shukairy. He coined the organization’s famous slogan about “driving the Jews into the sea.” He is also remembered for saying on May 31, 1956, to the UN Security Council:
It is common knowledge that Palestine is nothing but Southern Syria. So what were they “liberating”? From whom? There were no “occupied territories” and no “illegal settlements” at that time, and Jordan controlled East Jerusalem. The PLO was intent on the destruction of Israel without any of the causes or reasons they now claim are fundamental. Their emblem includes a map — Israel is part of their concept of Palestine.

The clear genocidal meaning of Shukairy’s phrase and in-context with the over all Arab attitude readiness for extermination

Arab attitudes to Israel – Page 38 – Yehoshafat Harkabi – 1974 – 527 pages – Preview
The formula “to throw Israel into the sea” certainly does not mean that only the State coat-of-arms will be flung into the water while the Israelis continue to dwell in the land each under his vine and under his fig tree, especially as the less ambiguous term “to throw the Jews into the sea”- which has an undoubted genocidal signficance — is quite frequent. Genocidal motifs may also be seen in the typical caricature which depicts the liquidation of Israel as the killing of a scorpion, or for example the text of a manifesto published in al-Ahram (February 3, 1964) for distribution among the Jews of the world to warn them against migrating to Israel, describing such a move as a “free” one-way road to death, and making the point unmistakably clear with the aid of a drawing showing the Angel of Death with his sickle.

The Arab goal, furthermore, is presented as not only a change in the political status of the country, but also a matter of punishment and revenge. Since the establishment of Israel is denounced as an international crime, her extinction must be carried out as a punitive operation and a massacre.

THE BANNER OF “LIBERATION” BEFORE THE SO-CALLED “OCCUPATION” / INDEED, TERRORISM CAME BEFORE THE “OCCUPATION”

Restoring historical memory
Op-ed: Palestinian enmity towards Jews not about borders but about Israel’s existence
Martin Sherman Published: 01.19.11, 18:11 / Israel Opinion
Israel is continuously accused by its detractors of “occupying” Palestinian territory and “usurping” Palestinian land by means of an “expansionary settlement policy.” “Occupation” and “Settlements” have thus become the buzzwords by which to denote and defame Israel’s control of the territories across the 1967 armistices lines. This prevailing custom is wildly at odds with the realities that forced Israel to seize these territories in an unequivocal act of self-defense against threats of annihilation, in a classic preemptive exercise of the right of “anticipatory self defense.”
[…]
So, as the Arab armies massed against it, Israel began to brace itself for the coming war, preparing mass graves in Tel Aviv and other cities in anticipation of large civilian causalities. On May 27, 1967, the then-chairman of the Palestine Liberation Organization, Ahmed Shukairy, gloated, “D-Day is approaching. The Arabs have waited 19 years for this and will not flinch from the war of liberation.”

The use of the word “liberation” is both interesting and revealing. At the time, the notions of “occupation” and “settlements” had neither conceptual significance nor practical relevance and could not account for this ferocious hostility towards the Jewish nation-state by the Arabs who clearly were not seeking “liberation” in Arab-ruled Gaza and “West Bank.” Impressed by this boastful bluster, and despite the bitter acrimony between Nasser and himself, King Hussein signed a military pact with Egypt on May 30, 1967, declaring:

“All of the Arab armies now surround Israel. The UAR (the United Arab Republic, the name by which Egypt called itself from 1958 to 1971), Syria, Iraq, Jordan, Yemen, Lebanon, Algeria, Sudan, and Kuwait. …. There is no difference between one Arab people and another, no difference between one Arab army and another.”

In a premature flush of triumph, on June 1, 1967, PLO leader Shukairy crowed: “This is a fight for the homeland. It is either us or the Israelis. There is no middle road. The Jews of Palestine will have to leave. We will facilitate their departure to their former homes. Any of the old Palestine Jewish population who survive may stay, but it is my impression that none of them will survive….We shall destroy Israel and its inhabitants and as for the survivors – if there are any – the boats are ready to deport them.”

Here again Shukairy’s terminology is of interest. For quite apart from the explicit articulation of his bloodcurdling intentions, the use of “homeland” is instructive and illuminating. For it clearly did not refer to “West Bank” or to Gaza which, as previously mentioned, were under Arab rule and were certainly in no way targeted for “liberation.” Cleary then, “the liberation of the homeland” must be construed as “the elimination of the Jewish state.” Indeed, how else could be construed.

This view is strongly endorsed by the text of the original formulation of the Palestinian Covenant adopted in 1964, before any “occupation” or “settlements” were ever part of the discourse, much less facts on the ground. In Article 24, it specifically eschews claims to “any territorial sovereignty over the West Bank in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan (sic) and Gaza.”

What more authoritative source could be imagined for exposing the Palestinian claims to the West Bank and Gaza as bogus than the Palestinian themselves? The source being their own “National Covenant” no less.
