What the weak/Arabist BBC omitted in interviewing Jordanian Arab “king” Abdullah

Nov-14-2011

BBC News Special: Lyse Doucet speaks to King Abdullah of Jordan
http://www.bbc.co.uk/worldservice/programmes/2011/11/111114_king_abdullah_of_jordan_interview.shtml

1) “King” Abdullah of Jordan outrageously said -typically-propagated to BBC that if Israel would have just solved the “Palestinian” problem, it wouldn’t had to deal with Iran nukes… that Iran wouldn’t want -then- to attack Israel…

The BBC Reporter –of course– “forgot” to press about the clear genocide the Islamic Republic has repeatedly reiterated in 1994 (in Argentina by Iranian official Mohsen Rabbani),[1][2] in 2005 [3][4][5][6] and 2007 [7] (by Ahmadinejad) for Israel to be WIPED OFF, Period. What’s the connection between this blind jihadi-annihilation quest and a ‘two state solution’? The same goes to the Hamas who (admitted) training in Iran,[8] who do not want ANY non-Arab non-Muslim Jewish and democratic state, no matter its size. The same goes of course to Iran’s Hezbollah thugs.

2) The BBC reporter L. Doucet, (in an embarrassing self-immersed fascination of the -fake- royal charm) asides from walking with high heels and ever so delicately not offending the “king,” in questioning the head of the montachy about the protests against his regime in his country, it never asked about human rights, about the Arab-apartheid regime’s discriminations against: Gypsies,[9][10] against Arab-Palestinians,[11][12][13] [14] and against Christians[15]; as well as the complete banning of all Jews. (Worth mentioning that Jordan was the first and only –real– apartheid regime in Palestine.[16] It was in 1948, when it occupied Jerusalem, ethno-religious cleansed[17][18] native Jews and implemented racist laws).

Not that any other Arab Muslim country is not an apartheid and anti human rights regime…

Ahmadinejad Was Not Mistranslated

What Iranian Leaders Really Say about Doing Away with Israel:
A Refutation of the Campaign to Excuse Ahmadinejad’s Incitement to Genocide
By Joshua Teitelbaum

* Over the past several years, Iranian leaders most prominently, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad have made numerous statements calling for the destruction of Israel and the Jewish people. While certain experts have interpreted these statements to be simple expressions of dissatisfaction with the current Israeli government and its policies, in reality, the intent behind Ahmadinejad’s language and that of others is clear.
* What emerges from a comprehensive analysis of what Ahmadinejad actually said and how it has been interpreted in Iran is that the Iranian president was not just calling for “regime change” in Jerusalem, but rather the actual physical destruction of the State of Israel. When Ahmadinejad punctuates his speech with “Death to Israel” (marg bar Esraiil), this is no longer open to various interpretations.
* A common motif of genocide incitement is the dehumanization of the target population. The Nazi weekly Der Stürmer portrayed Jews as parasites and locusts. Ahmadinejad said in a speech on October 26, 2005: “In the Middle East, they [the global powers] have created a black and filthy microbe called the Zionist regime.”
* Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who succeeded Ayatollah Khomeini in 1989, has made statements about Israel similar to Ahmadinejad. On December 15, 2000, he declared on Iranian TV: “Iran’s position, which was first expressed by the Imam [Khomeini] and stated several times by those responsible, is that the cancerous tumor called Israel must be uprooted from the region.”
* Michael Axworthy, who served as the Head of the Iran Section of Britain’s Foreign and Commonwealth Office, notes that when the slogan “Israel must be wiped off the map” appeared “draped over missiles in military parades, that meaning was pretty clear.”
* There is an ample legal basis for the prosecution of Ahmadinejad in the International Court of Justice and the International Criminal Court for direct and public incitement to commit genocide and crimes against humanity.

Ahmadinejad Was Not Mistranslated
June 17, 2008 – 11:32 am
A new study by Joshua Teitelbaum of the Jerusalem Center for Public Affairs sets out to refute the claim that Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and other Iranian leaders are being misquoted when they call for the destruction of Israel and the Jewish people.
As the executive summary states: “What emerges from a comprehensive analysis of what Ahmadinejad actually said – and how it has been interpreted in Iran – is that the Iranian president was not just calling for ‘regime change’ in Jerusalem, but rather the actual physical destruction of the State of Israel . When Ahmadinejad punctuates his speech with ‘Death to Israel’ (marg bar Esraiil ), this is no longer open to various interpretations.”

Just How Far Did They Go, Those Words Against Israel? – New York Times… But translators in Tehran who work for the president’s office and the foreign ministry disagree with them. All official translations of Mr. Ahmadinejad’s statement, including a description of it on his Web site (www.president.ir/eng/), refer to wiping Israel away. …When combined with Iran’s longstanding support for Palestinian Islamic Jihad and Hezbollah of Lebanon, two groups that have killed numerous Israelis, and Mr. Ahmadinejad’s refusal to acknowledge the Holocaust, it is hard to argue that, from Israel’s point of view, Mr. Ahmadinejad poses no threat. Still, it is true that he has never specifically threatened war against Israel.
So did Iran’s president call for Israel to be wiped off the map? It certainly seems so. Did that amount to a call for war? That remains an open question.

Ahmadinejad: Israel’s “annihilation” is a necessary part of the “historic war” between Islam & the West (Al Jazeera).

Since Ahmadinejad’s call to “wipe Israel off the map” last October, some academics have claimed the Iranian leader was mistranslated or misunderstood.
“Ahmadinejad did not say he was going to wipe Israel off the map, because no such idiom exists in Persian,” left-wing University of Michigan professor Juan Cole told the New York Times. “He did say he hoped its regime, i.e., a Jewish-Zionist state occupying Jerusalem, would collapse… Since Iran has not attacked another country aggressively for over a century, I smell the whiff of war propaganda.”
Jonathan Steele of the British Guardian newspaper also told the Times: “The Iranian president was quoting an ancient statement by Iran’s first Islamist leader, the late Ayatollah Khomeini, that ‘this regime occupying Jerusalem must vanish from the page of time,’ just as the Shah’s regime in Iran had vanished. He was not making a military threat. He was calling for an end to the occupation of Jerusalem at some point in the future. The ‘page of time’ phrase suggests he did not expect it to happen soon.”
Neither of the two have responded to Ahmadinejad’s latest clarification and call to action, which were translated and distributed by the Iranian state-run IRNA news agency.

Was Wiping Israel Off the Map a Misquote? – Michael Rubin (National Review)
Some academics and policymakers bend over backwards to convince themselves and others that Iranian President Ahmadinejad does not mean what he says.
Rep. Dennis Kucinich (D-Ohio) argued that the proper translation of Ahmadinejad’s quotes is the subject of debate and that translations used were either misquoted or out of context. It’s a line which originated with Juan Cole, a University of Michigan professor, who wrote: “This idiom does not exist in Persian, and that what Ahmadinejad actually said was, ‘This occupation regime over Jerusalem must vanish from the page of time.'” But here, the Islamic Republic provides its own clarification. In its official translations, it headlined Ahmadinejad’s call to “wipe Israel off the map.”
